Annual inflation for fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment in Cyprus reached 18.6% in June 2026, according to data released on Wednesday by Eurostat. Cyprus ranks among the EU Member States with the highest price increases, as annual fuel inflation across the bloc ranged from 2.3% in Hungary to 26.0% in Bulgaria.

Month-on-Month Trend: Bucking the EU Drop

According to Eurostat, regarding month-on-month gasoline prices, Cyprus was one of only two EU countries where an increase was recorded between May and June 2026. Specifically, gasoline prices in Cyprus rose by 0.7%, while Italy saw an increase of 0.5%.

All other EU Member States recorded month-on-month decreases in gasoline prices, with the sharpest drops observed in:

• Sweden: -7.8%

• Belgium: -7.0%

• Poland: -6.6%

Broader EU Annual Context

Across the entire EU, the price of fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment increased by 13.7% in June 2026 compared to June 2025. This follows higher year-on-year increases recorded in previous months—20.8% in April 2026 and 20.7% in May 2026 compared to the corresponding periods in 2025.

Eurostat notes that while fuel and lubricant prices continued to rise across all EU countries on an annual basis in June 2026, they did so at a slower rate than in May. In May 2026, four countries had recorded annual inflation rates exceeding 30% for this category.

In June 2026, the highest annual increases were recorded in:

• Bulgaria: 26.0%

• Lithuania: 23.5%

• Romania: 23.1%

• Finland: 22.0%

• Luxembourg: 20.7%

The lowest annual increases were observed in Hungary (2.3%) and Poland (5.8%).

Monthly Drops in EU Diesel and Gasoline

On a month-on-month basis, consumers across the EU saw diesel prices decrease by 6.4% and gasoline prices decline by 4.2% in June 2026 compared to May 2026. In May 2026, diesel had dropped by 5.8% compared to April, while gasoline had recorded a modest uptick of 0.8%.

Between May and June 2026, diesel prices fell across all EU Member States. The largest monthly drops in diesel prices were recorded in:

• Czechia: -11.3%

• Poland: -9.7%

• Bulgaria: -9.4%

The smallest monthly decreases for diesel were observed in Hungary (-0.6%), Italy (-1.4%), and Slovenia (-1.6%).
