Eurostat: Cyprus Among Top Five EU Countries with Lowest Unemployment in 2025
Cyprus posts a 4.9% unemployment rate, remaining below the EU average but facing higher youth unemployment levels.
Cyprus ranks among the top-performing EU countries for 2025, recording one of the lowest unemployment rates in Europe, according to the latest Eurostat data.
As of September 2025, Cyprus’ unemployment rate stood at 4.9%, well below the EU average of 6% and the Eurozone average of 6.3%. This performance places Cyprus among the five EU member states with the lowest unemployment rates.
Across the Eurozone, unemployment showed a slight increase in September 2025, reaching 6.3%, while the overall EU rate remained stable at 6%.
Eurostat’s report, published on Thursday, indicates that Cyprus has maintained a steady decline in unemployment over the past year, dropping from 5.1% in August 2025 to 4.9% in September.
The total number of unemployed persons in Cyprus is estimated at around 26,000. In comparison, unemployment rates remain higher in other EU countries — Spain (10.5%), Finland (9.8%), and Greece (8.2%).
However, youth unemployment in Cyprus continues to pose a challenge, with a rate of 17.2% in September 2025, higher than the EU average of 14.8%.
Unemployment trends across the EU show significant variation. While countries such as Spain and Greece continue to face relatively high unemployment levels, others have achieved exceptionally low rates — including the Czech Republic (3%), Poland (3.2%), and Malta (3%).
