Cyprus Mandates All Rent Payments Must Be Done Electronically From July
Payment of Rent Only by Electronic Means, Cyprus Tax Department Says
Starting July 1, 2026, the Cyprus Tax Department has mandated that all rent payments for immovable property must be made exclusively through electronic means, such as bank transfers or cards, completely banning cash transactions regardless of the property type or amount.
New Anti-Cash Directive Takes Effect
As of July 1, 2026, the payment of rent relating to immovable property in Cyprus must be made exclusively via bank transfer, or payment by debit or credit card, or any other recognised electronic means of payment, the Cyprus Tax Department said in a press release on Wednesday.
Universal Application Across All Sectors
The above obligation applies to all natural and legal persons, regardless of the amount of the rent and the type of use of the immovable property, it added.
Strict Enforcement for Property Owners
It stressed that any beneficiary of rent relating to immovable property in Cyprus should not accept the collection of such rent in any other manner, other than those specified above.
