Minimum Wage Decision Imminent: New Labour Minister Signals Rapid Moves
Marinos Moushiouttas outlines key priorities as major labour reforms approach year-end deadlines.
The issue of the national minimum wage is expected to be finalised within the coming days, due to the strict deadline before the end of the year, according to newly appointed Labour Minister Marinos Moushiouttas.
Speaking on RIK’s Third Programme, he said it would be inappropriate to comment on figures before he is fully briefed.
He noted that whether the matter concerns the minimum wage, the pension system, or other social insurance issues, the Ministry’s priority is meaningful dialogue with social partners to ensure a balanced outcome and avoid strikes or counter-strikes.
When asked about pension reform, Mr Moushiouttas said it is one of the changes that must move forward in order to correct existing distortions. He expressed confidence that constructive dialogue can lead to a positive result.
Responding to another question, the Labour Minister added that the overarching goal of his Ministry is to improve services provided to citizens.
