Electricity: Cyprus Keeps Subsidy for Families and Businesses Until 2026
The decision aims to protect household income and maintain low energy costs amid economic pressures.
The Council of Ministers has approved an extension of the electricity subsidy for vulnerable households and businesses until the end of 2026.
Finance Minister Makis Keravnos stated that, under the decision, the subsidy for category “08” will continue, allowing thousands of households and businesses to benefit from reduced electricity bills.
Minister Keravnos emphasized that it is a consistent policy of the government to strengthen citizens’ income, particularly for vulnerable social groups. This, he noted, is achieved through multiple measures and at various levels.
He cited as examples the tax reform efforts currently underway, as well as the maintenance of zero and low VAT rates on several essential goods and everyday products — initiatives aimed at easing the cost of living for households.
Referring to the ongoing negotiations on the Cost of Living Allowance (ATA), Keravnos acknowledged that the discussions have had “ups and downs,” but expressed confidence that an agreement will be reached soon.
