Inclusion Key to Modern Maritime Sector

Shipping Deputy Minister Says, Equality-Inclusion Keys for Sustainable and Modern Maritime Sector

Equality and inclusion are key prerequisites for a sustainable and modern maritime sector, Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis said on Monday during an event organized by the Deputy Ministry on the occasion of International Day for Women in Maritime.

The Day was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) with the aim of recognizing the valuable contribution of women to the global maritime sector.

Hadjimanolis reiterated the Deputy Ministry's commitment to continuing actions and initiatives that enhance the participation and advancement of women in shipping.

The event was held in the presence of representatives of the shipping industry, members of WISTA (Women's International Shipping & Trading Association) Cyprus, as well as officials of the Deputy Ministry.

The event included the awarding ceremony of the “2026 Cyprus Shipping Equality Award”, which was presented Andreas Chrysostomou, CEO of Pivotal Step Limited, in recognition of years of significant contribution to the promotion of gender equality, inclusion and empowerment of women in the shipping sector, both in Cyprus and internationally.
