Tourist Arrivals See Sharp Decline
Tourist Arrivals Down 27.6% in April, a 17.9% Drop Recorded in First Four Months
Tourist arrivals recorded a drop of 27.6% in April 2026, compared to the same month of 2025, reaching 303,031 compared to 418,730, according to data published by the Statistical Service on Monday.
For the period of January – April 2026, arrivals of tourists totaled 710,370 compared to 865,326 in the corresponding period of 2025, recording a decrease of 17.9%.
For April 2027, arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism, with a share of 39.2% (118,742) of total arrivals, followed by Poland with 8.4% (25,371), Germany with 8% (24,178), Israel with 5.3% (15,997) and Greece with 4.7% (14,255)
In April 2026, 73% of tourists travelled for holidays, 17.7% visited friends and relatives and 9.2% travelled for business purposes. Respectively, in April 2025, 80.3% of tourists visited Cyprus for holidays, 12.7% visited friends or relatives and 6.9% visited Cyprus for business purposes
A total of 164,357 residents of Cyprus returned from a trip abroad in April 2026 compared to 164,844 in the corresponding month last year, recording a decrease of 0.3%.
The main countries from which residents of Cyprus returned in April 2026 were Greece with a share of 32.1% (52,837), the United Kingdom with 6.8% (11,219), Italy with 6% (9,841) and Romania with 4.2% (6,931).
The purpose of travel for the residents of Cyprus in April 2026 was mainly holidays, with a percentage of 74.7%, whilst business reasons held a percentage of 17.5%, studies 6.8% and other reasons 1%.
