Vasilikos LNG Terminal: Gap Analysis Study Delivered – Next Steps
ETYFA to assess timelines for remaining works and determine next steps.
The study (gap analysis) conducted by the project coordinator (project manager) regarding the Vasilikos terminal was delivered yesterday, Friday, as scheduled. The study sets out the timelines for completing the remaining works of the overall project (jetty, onshore terminal, and network), the President of the Natural Gas Infrastructure Company (ETYFA), George Asiikalis, told the Cyprus News Agency.
At the same time, he noted that the installation of components on the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Prometheus is at a final stage. The vessel is currently anchored in Malaysia.
Specifically, Mr Assiikalis said that the gap analysis for the Vasilikos terminal will be assessed by ETYFA’s competent department and, in approximately 15 days, will be submitted to ETYFA’s Board of Directors, which will decide how the overall project should proceed.
Regarding the Prometheus, Mr Assiikalis stated that the installation of components on the vessel is being finalized and that, within January, an inspection will be carried out by the classification society Lloyd’s, in order to certify that the modifications to the ship have been properly completed.
“Any modifications made must be certified by a classification society,” he explained.
He added that once the certification process is completed within January, “the vessel will then be ready to sail to a terminal for the completion of its final certification as an FSRU.”
The President of ETYFA told CNA that a study is currently being conducted “to determine which port the vessel will sail to in order to obtain certification.”
What is being examined, he said, is whether the Prometheus will go to a terminal abroad or whether it will come to Cyprus to be certified at the country’s own terminal in Vasilikos.
He noted that the latter option will depend on when the remaining works at the Vasilikos terminal are completed.
