Cyprus to Compete Again in the International Economics Olympiad 2025

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) prepares a new team after winning three bronze medals in its debut at the 2024 competition.

The Department of Financial, Accounting, and Administrative Sciences (FADAS) at the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) announced on Monday Cyprus’s participation in the International Economics Olympiad (IEO) for the second consecutive year.

The department holds exclusive responsibility for organizing and coordinating the local competition, which will determine the five-member team representing Cyprus at the global event in the summer of 2025.

According to the announcement, the IEO aims to enhance young participants’ knowledge and skills in economics and financial literacy. More than 60 countries participate annually in the competition, with local contests serving as qualifiers for the international event.

The announcement highlighted Cyprus’s exceptional performance in its debut at the 2024 IEO, held from July 22 to 31, 2024, in Hong Kong. Cyprus secured three bronze medals among 267 participants from 68 countries, significantly boosting the country's international reputation.

To select the 2025 team, CUT’s FADAS department will host a local competition under the theme: “Manage Your Finances Smartly, Build Your Future Wisely.”

The event will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Eligible participants include high school students (from public or private schools) and students from technical schools in the Republic of Cyprus who will not exceed 20 years of age by June 30, 2025.
