Inside ESG: Social Issues Under the Microscope - Interview with Dr. Aristotelis Constantinides

New Concepts and Obligations for Cypriot Companies

A different aspect of ESG is highlighted in the new episode of the vodcast, Inside ESG. In the fourth episode, Irene Loucaides, Managing Director of Grow Sustainability Consulting, welcomes Dr. Aristotelis Constantinides, Associate Professor of International Law and Human Rights Law at the University of Cyprus and one of the founding members of the University's Law Department.

Although the first three episodes focused on the environmental dimension of ESG, this episode will analyze the social issues that arise, with a primary focus on human rights. "Without respect for human rights, we cannot achieve sustainable development," characteristically states Mrs. Loucaides in her foreword.

"Respecting and protecting human rights has always been the responsibility of states. Human rights law, the rules, were part of the constitution; they were rules that states had an obligation to implement. Companies, as private entities, had no obligations to respect and protect human rights," says Mr. Constantinides, among other things, as he then analyzes the new obligations of companies and organizations.
