Medical School Launch and Record-High Applications

For the current academic year, only the Medical School will commence operations. Registrations have already opened for eligible candidates, who were invited to interviews between October 6 and 10. The final registration deadline was Wednesday, October 8.

According to Dr. Eleni Vassilopoulou, Executive Director of NKUA, the Medical School has attracted over 350 applications, a figure that reflects strong public interest. Interviews are being conducted from Monday, October 6, to Friday, October 10, while classes—originally scheduled to begin at the end of October—will now start earlier, on November 3, due to the high number of applicants.

Out of the 350 applications, only 60 students will be accepted this year, as set by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education.

Seven More Departments to Open in 2026–2027

Regarding the remaining seven departments, Dr. Vassilopoulou stated that despite existing interest, the university decided to launch them in the 2026–2027 academic year. The decision was based on the fact that many students had already finalized their study choices, and NKUA preferred not to begin operations with a low student intake.

Preparatory seminars and promotional activities will take place during the current academic year to raise awareness and attract prospective students ahead of next year’s launch.

Finally, Dr. Vassilopoulou noted that there is already significant interest in the Nursing Department within the School of Health Sciences.
