The Cyprus Council of Ministers approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Cyprus Police and the FBI of the United States, as announced by the Ministry of Justice. This development "marks a significant step in enhancing the capabilities of Cypriot investigative authorities, especially in the fight against money laundering," the announcement states. 

According to the announcement, the MoU between the Cyprus Police and the FBI focuses on providing assistance in investigating potential sanction violations, legitimizing income from illegal activities, and combating corruption. This approval institutionalizes closer cooperation between the two countries in the ongoing effort to combat money laundering and efficiently investigate financial crime cases.

The purpose of this MoU is to bolster collaboration in exchanging information and knowledge on research methodology, tactics, and techniques related to economic investigations, while ensuring the confidentiality of such information.

“The signing of this MoU represents not only a significant development in enhancing Cyprus-U.S. bilateral relations but also in strengthening Cypriot investigative authorities with the necessary expertise and know-how. This proactive measure enables them to identify, investigate, and prosecute cases involving financial crimes linked to Cyprus,” concludes the announcement.
