A “Living Lab” in Amargeti, Paphos Brings Together Culture and Sustainability
With great success, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, the participatory workshop “Pame Amargeti: A Culture and Sustainability Lab” took place in Amargeti, Paphos, as part of the European project under the Creative Europe program, CoRES (Creativity, Resilience, Environment, Sustainability: A Cultural Paradigm for a More Resilient Art World).
The “Pame Amargeti: A Culture and Sustainability Lab”, held during the Amargeti Festival, featured workshops based on innovative, applied, and participatory research methodologies. Its purpose was to identify the gaps and needs that hinder the mobilization of stakeholders in the Cultural and Creative Sector toward the green transition, as well as to provide education on the effects of climate change and ways to address them.
Artists, creators, representatives of environmental organizations, and young professionals from the Cultural and Creative Sector across Cyprus collaborated to co-develop cohesive solutions that promote sustainable growth and strengthen the sector’s resilience to the climate crisis. Participants also visited local producers and small businesses to explore real-life examples of sustainability and circular economy practices aimed at tackling the climate crisis through the empowerment of local production. The program concluded with screenings of WOMANIFESTO I and WOMANIFESTO II by Efi Spyrou, followed by a friendly reception, offering an opportunity for further interaction and exchange of ideas.
As stated by Dr. Xenia I. Loizidou, Chair of the Board of AKTI Project and Research Centre, “Culture and sustainability go hand in hand. Climate chaos and environmental degradation can only be tackled through collaboration and innovation, recognizing local communities as the core of sustainability. Bravo CoRES, bravo Amargeti.”
The event was held under the auspices of the Deputy Minister of Culture, Dr. Vassiliki Kassianidou, and was organized in collaboration with Technopolis 20, the Dance House Nicosia, and the Amargeti Community Council. As part of the CoRES program, this participatory lab will travel to Malta and Athens in January and May 2026, respectively, followed by a Sustainability Bootcamp in Cyprus in Summer 2027, featuring artists and creators from Greece, Malta, and Cyprus.
CoRES – Creativity, Resilience, Environment, Sustainability: A Cultural Paradigm for a More Resilient Art World is an innovative, interdisciplinary project co-funded by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission and the Deputy Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus, under the Creative Europe 2021–2027 program.
The project is implemented by three European partners: AKTI Project and Research Centre (Cyprus), RUNONART (Greece), and Studio18 (Malta). Its aim is to bring together the cultural and creative sector with the environmental field, enhance the resilience of professionals, and contribute to building a more sustainable cultural ecosystem across Europe.
