Michalis Pantelidis Brings Contemporary Textile Design to Paris

From Cyprus to the Louvre.

Cypriot Fashion Textiles Designer Michalis Pantelidis is currently presenting his silk scarves at the Louvre Museum Shop in Paris, as part of the official initiative “Cyprus at the Louvre.”

Organized on the occasion of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the initiative creates a dialogue between ancient Cypriot artefacts and contemporary cultural production. Alongside archaeological exhibits and digital storytelling installations, a curated selection of works by Cypriot artisans is featured at the museum shop, highlighting the evolution of craft from past to present.

Pantelidis participates in this initiative with his silk scarf “Lotus March,” developed in collaboration with the Pierides Museum and the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation. The piece reflects his multidisciplinary design approach, combining photographic documentation with digital collage to create textiles that translate cultural narratives into contemporary visual language.

His work explores themes of memory, place, and identity, using textiles as a medium to reinterpret Cypriot heritage through a modern lens.

“This is something I have been working towards for years,” he explains. “Seeing my work positioned within this environment creates a meaningful connection between contemporary design and cultural history.”

Pantelidis also acknowledges the role of the Cyprus Handicrafts Service in facilitating this opportunity, as well as the support of Maria Anaxagora and Deputy Minister of Culture Vasiliki Kassianidou.

Through initiatives like “Cyprus at the Louvre,” Cyprus continues to position itself within a broader cultural and creative landscape, where tradition is reinterpreted through contemporary design and innovation.
