As one of the most beautiful mountainous villages of Larnaca, Vavla has attracted around ten young people in recent years, who left the cities and chose to live in the traditional houses of the village. These are young people who sought a different quality of life in nature, with low rents, in a beautiful environment that fosters the development of close bonds among the community's residents. These young people revitalized the Vavla Development Association, and through it emerged the Musical Stroll in the traditional village, which will be held on Saturday, May 13th.

The Vavla Development Association invites the public to a pleasant afternoon: Starting at 5 p.m., seven music bands will perform in traditional houses, courtyards, and other spots in the village. Specifically, the artists Dimitris Mesimeris and Frederiki Tompazou, Nama Dama, Sofia Fetokaki + Duo Lelale, the vocal jazz trio Sung Mellow, Malu, the string quartet Por Amor Al Arte, and the British duo Dutch Grip will perform.

Upon arrival, visitors will receive a program with a map of the village, guiding them to the locations of the music events. Concurrently, there will be an art exhibition by Cypriot painter Paschalis Anastasi at the former village primary school. Entry to the entire event is free, while local products and various food and drink items will be sold. The event bar is hosted by the Nicosia café Prozak. The night will conclude with music from British DJ Reginald Omas Mamode IV in the village centre.

Apart from the Cypriot painter Paschalis Anastasi, musicians Lefteris Moumtzis and Sofia Fetokaki also live in the village. Sofia came from abroad in 2020 and settled in Vavla with her partner George Venizelos. Their three-month-old daughter Amaryllis is the youngest resident of the village. "I lived abroad and initially came here after being invited by my friend Lefteris Moumtzis. I didn't want to live in the city and fell in love with the village the very first time I came. It's very special, with many well-preserved stone houses. We like the tranquillity, the beauty, the calm, the nature. We have things here that we wouldn't find in the city," Sofia told us.

For the Musical Stroll on May 13th, Sofia Fetokaki recommends that the public attend and enjoy a unique experience. "People will have the opportunity to get to know the village and our music. The traditional courtyards of the houses will open up and fill with music. We will also have stalls with local products. The stroll is suitable for people of all ages." Sofia will perform island and oriental songs with Elena Xyda and Veronika Alonioti.

George Venizelos talked to us about a stream of young people who choose to move to Vavla. He is involved in research at the University of Cyprus and, as he explained, with telecommuting, it is not necessary to be in the city every day. "We enjoy nature and don't need to travel every day. The relationships that develop in a small community are very different, and we enjoy this experience. All the village residents are 40, of whom 10 are young." The Musical Stroll, George says, will give visitors the opportunity to get to know the village, enter the courtyards of the wonderful stone houses, and enjoy good music. "We will continue to systematically organise events that will breathe new life into the village," he notes.
