Cyprus Secures Reelection to International Maritime Organisation Council for 2024-25
The Foreign Affairs Ministry Expressed “Gratitude to All the Countries That Supported Cyprus’ Candidacy"
Cyprus has been reelected to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council for 2024-25, securing 132 votes, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the successful collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, leading to this notable achievement. This victory ensures Cyprus' uninterrupted representation on the Council since 1987, a testament to the nation's commitment to maritime affairs. The Ministry expressed "gratitude to all the countries that supported Cyprus' candidacy."
Marina Hadjimanolis, the Shipping Deputy Minister of Cyprus, emphasized the significance of this reelection. She remarked that it "demonstrates the strong position of Cyprus in the international maritime field."
Hadjimanolis acknowledged the continuous support Cyprus has received since its first election to the IMO Council in 1987. She described the reelection as "a great success," underscoring Cyprus' influential role in maritime matters on the global stage.
She extended her thanks to colleagues at the Shipping Deputy Ministry and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their collaborative efforts in promoting Cyprus' candidacy.
