Emphasis on Energy Efficiency and Natural Resource Conservation in Upcoming National Plan
The completion of Cyprus's revised National Plan for Energy and Climate 2030 is anticipated by the end of June, announced George Papanastasiou, the Minister of Energy, Commerce, and Industry. Speaking at the press conference for the "Save Energy, Greenbiz & AquaTech Expo 2024," Papanastasiou highlighted the collaborative efforts between various Ministries to finalize the plan. The revised plan, ready by June, aims to establish policies and measures for Cyprus to achieve its climate and energy goals by 2030.
A focus on reducing energy demand, notably through building renovations and addressing energy poverty, is a priority. The Minister also noted the increasing public interest in energy-saving initiatives, with over 21,000 applications in 2023, a significant rise from previous years.
Dr. Maria Panayiotou, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, discussed policies related to natural resource conservation and advancing water technologies and environmental protection. She mentioned the newly approved National Investment Plan for Water Projects, encompassing 33 infrastructure projects valued at €722 million, with an additional 60 projects valued at €445 million under consideration.
The emphasis on implementing smart farming methods and encouraging innovative technology through targeted policies and grants was highlighted as essential for the sustainable future of agricultural production.
The "18th Save Energy, Greenbiz & AquaTech Expo 2024," hosted by the Cyprus Employers & Industrialists Federation (ΟΕΒ), will be held at the City of Dreams Mediterranean in Limassol from April 12-14.
