Tourist Arrivals in Cyprus Hit Record High in August 2024
August Sees Highest-Ever Tourist Arrivals, Surpassing 2019 Levels
A new all-time record for tourist arrivals was set in August, with 554,923 visitors, surpassing the previous record set in August 2019 by 0.20%.
According to data released by the Statistical Service today, tourist arrivals for the period of January to August reached 2,758,627, compared to 2,648,795 during the same period in 2023, marking a 4.1% increase.
Compared to August of last year, arrivals in the past month showed an 8.5% year-on-year increase.
The Statistical Service indicated that the United Kingdom was the largest source of tourism for August 2024, accounting for 34.7% (192,424) of total arrivals. Israel followed with 13.3% (74,032), Poland with 7.7% (42,650), Germany with 4.2% (23,068), and Sweden with 4.1% (22,508).
Meanwhile, trips by Cypriot residents abroad in the same month totaled 192,756, compared to 199,920 in August 2023, reflecting a 3.6% decrease.
The main destinations from which Cypriot residents returned in August 2024 were Greece (39.1% or 75,381), the United Kingdom (6.6% or 12,718), Russia (4.4% or 8,538), and Italy (4.1% or 7,926).
