After Securing 3rd Place at the Formula SAE Student Competition in Italy, the Team Presents Its Formula Race Car in Nicosia

After winning 3rd place at the International Formula SAE Student Competition in Italy, Frederick University’s FUF Racing Team will showcase its Formula-type racing car at Daytona Raceway in Nicosia.

According to Frederick University’s announcement, the event will take place on Tuesday, October 22, at 17:00. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to witness the car in action and meet the team members up close.

Frederick University’s Formula Racing Team (FUF Racing Team) is the first Cypriot university team to design and build a single-seater Formula-type racing car. The team consists of students from various programs across the university and is led by academic advisor Professor Antonis Londos, a faculty member of the university’s School of Engineering.

During the event at Daytona Raceway, Frederick University will honor the FUF Racing Team for its achievement in securing 3rd place overall in the Formula SAE Student Competition. The team stood out among 18 university teams worldwide in the challenging category for cars with internal combustion engines.

The 1st place was awarded to Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (Italy), while the 2nd place went to the University of Applied Sciences, Aachen (Germany). In the endurance, fuel efficiency, acceleration, skid pad, and autocross events, the FUF Racing Team finished 3rd in all categories. In the static engineering design competition, they secured 4th place.

Additionally, Frederick University will recognize the sponsors who supported the team in achieving this significant result.

Highlighting Cyprus in Automotive Engineering

According to the university's announcement, this accomplishment honors not only Frederick University but the entire Cypriot academic community. It puts Cyprus on the map for academic excellence in automotive engineering.

This achievement is also a tangible example of students' involvement in applied research and innovation, a practice that Frederick University actively promotes through its co-curricular activities.

The FUF Racing Team created their single-seater car from scratch, studying, designing, and manufacturing nearly all components in the high-tech laboratories of the university’s School of Engineering.
