First Flamingos Arrive in Larnaca Salt Lake
Welcoming Winter Migration Season
The first flamingos have arrived at Larnaca Salt Lake, seeking a warmer climate and food. This initial group of vibrant pink visitors has found refuge in the lake, signaling the start of Cyprus’ winter migration season.
Each year, flocks of thousands of migratory birds, including flamingos, arrive in Cyprus, especially at the Larnaca Salt Lake, to spend the winter months. Their presence draws locals, tourists, and researchers eager to observe these captivating birds.
In the coming weeks, more flamingos are expected to arrive, provided there is sufficient rainfall to sustain their feeding needs.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to enjoy observing the flamingos from a distance without approaching them, entering the lake area, or using drones. The birds can be viewed safely from the Larnaca Salt Lake Observatory.
