This Is the First Song to Be Transmitted from the Moon
This band is now part of a groundbreaking space mission that will set a new record.
Last September, Imagine Dragons performed alongside the Los Angeles Film Orchestra and legendary video game composer Inon Zur at the Hollywood Bowl. While the concert is set for a cinematic release next month, the band is now part of a groundbreaking space mission that will set a new record.
Space technology company Lonestar is preparing to launch a rocket from Kennedy Space Center carrying a data center to the Moon. If successful, the mission will beam a song back to Earth, marking the first-ever music transmission from the lunar surface.
The selected piece for this historic event is a collaboration between Imagine Dragons and Inon Zur, further bridging music, space exploration, and technology.
According to Lonestar investor Ryan Micheletti, the goal is to inspire the next generation to embrace the future of space and technology: “That’s why we chose Children of the Sky as the first song in history to be transmitted from the Moon.”
When the track was released in 2023, Imagine Dragons' frontman Dan Reynolds emphasized its deeper meaning and connection to Bethesda's space-themed game, Starfield: “Bethesda has created iconic games that we’ve played for most of our lives, and it was an honor to collaborate on this song for Starfield.”
“Like the game itself, Children of the Sky explores some of the biggest existential questions we face as humans, as we search for our place in the universe.”
