The Cyprus Environmental Movement has issued an urgent warning regarding the Akrotiri Salt Lake, stating that one of the country's last major wetlands is on the brink of destruction due to human intervention driven by corporate profit.

The organization is urging the government to take immediate action to halt the environmental degradation. It demands an investigation to uncover the extent of the damage, hold polluters accountable, and compel those responsible to restore the wetland.

Despite repeated assurances from the authorities, the situation continues to deteriorate. Pollution has already led to a sharp decline in the population of flamingos and other key wildlife species. The Cyprus Environmental Movement warns that ongoing inaction and failure to implement effective measures amount to criminal negligence against the country’s natural environment.
