For Martyna Dybek, joining Wizz Air in 2019 was the start of a journey that took her from Poland to Cyprus. As a dedicated member of the Wizz Air family, she played a key role in establishing the airline’s Larnaca base, affectionately known as the "Sunny Base." With a love for aviation and the island lifestyle, Martyna has seen her career soar to new heights. Now a Senior Cabin Attendant and Wizz Air Ambassador, she shares the perks of life at the "Sunny Base," highlighting what makes working for one of Europe’s fastest-growing low-cost airlines so special.
The one I remember the most was when my mom was flying to visit me in Cyprus on her birthday. I informed the operating crew about her arrival to ensure she would always remember that trip. Thanks to their help, they managed to surprise her on her special day, and all I could see when picking her up at the airport was a huge smile. This is what I love about Wizz Air: it connects people and makes us a small family. It doesn’t matter if we’ve ever flown together before or if we’re from different countries; we can always count on each other.
What makes Wizz Air stand out is our unusual and unique destinations offer and a constant search for something new. Considering that we are currently waiting for the delivery of a new aircraft variant, the Airbus A321XLR (Extra Long Range), I believe it will provide even more people with the opportunity to explore and see the world.
The company has managed to succeed and grow by embedding its five long-standing values within our workforce at every base. The Larnaca base has been multicultural from the very start, allowing us to assert our inclusivity values and create an environment where everyone is heard and feels valued. Established during the challenging times of 2020, all the crews came together with a common goal, successfully establishing one of the best and happiest bases in the network. This mentality has been carried through the years and Larnaca has become known as the “sunny base”, where the positivity of the crew members, combined with the unique seaside location creates a working environment that every crew member aspires to be part of.
As mentioned before, the Larnaca base is a multicultural workplace. Our crew comes from all around the world, which gives us the opportunity to learn more about different cultures and languages as we spend a lot of time together every day. We all know each other well, which makes easier and less stressful. There’s always someone who has your back, and in the end, you don’t feel like you’re at work anymore. Time flies faster in a friendly environment. Additionally, while the flights from Cyprus are longer than from other locations, this results in more days off during the month, allowing us to travel more often, using our special employee fares and free bonus tickets. We can even bring our loved ones to the island with travel partner discounts. Plus, we can simply go and relax at the beach, as we’re the sunniest base, and every day off feels like a beach day.
It has been well established that potential customers trust the feedback of a company’s employees much more than any abstract review. As an ambassador, I have felt that my voice has had a strong impact on people who questioned me about the company while they were looking for travel options. It’s the people you meet on the street, in the shop queue, who may recognize you or overhear that you work in aviation and ask their questions, expressing their concerns or curiosity about flying. It has been my privilege to promote our company’s values of safety and ethics and to establish a point of trust. Wizz Air is a company that values its employees and passengers, creates opportunities, and constantly expands its network by embarking on new locations. Moreover, as a Senior Cabin Crew, I have had the chance to promote our integrity values from a leadership position to our new cabin crew members. It is very rewarding to be involved in the professional growth of new employees’, not only in the safety aspects of their work but also in their soft skills. All employees’are part ambassadors, and being a Wizz Air crew member is a chance to be part of a family you will be proud to represent.
Wizz Air provides numerous opportunities for personal growth, including promotions for senior cabin attendant roles, instructor positions, and various office roles. The company even helps our cabin crew upgrade from the cabin to the flightdeck by joining the „Cabin Crew to the Captain” program. In my opinion, everyone can find some areas for growth, however, my current goal is to become a member of the recruiting team and participate in finding new, amazing people for our base. When it comes to the company’s growth in Cyprus, as we mentioned before, we are one of Europe's fastest-growing airlines, and I believe Larnaca is ideally positioned to connect Europe with the rest of the world.
