UN Secretary-General Confirms Agreement on Expanded Meeting Plan with Cyprus President
UN Secretary-General António Guterres informed Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides that plans for an expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue are moving forward, with all parties in agreement. This brief exchange occurred on the sidelines of the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku.
Government sources disclosed that during this short meeting, the UN Secretary-General confirmed that the plans for the expanded meeting are proceeding as discussed at the informal dinner held on October 15, and that consensus has been reached among all involved parties.
Additionally, it was noted that UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo will soon visit Cyprus to coordinate preparations on-site, as the Secretary-General is keen to ensure productive outcomes from this meeting, according to the same sources.
During the Baku conference, President Christodoulides also met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan for a follow-up discussion on issues raised in their recent meeting in Budapest.
