Papadakis Returns to Frontline Politics with ALMA

Former MEP announces parliamentary run, pledging war on corruption.

Former MEP Dimitris Papadakis has officially announced his intention to run in the upcoming Cyprus parliamentary elections, confirming that he will be a cooperating candidate with the ALMA Movement, led by Odysseas Michaelides.

In a written statement, Papadakis stressed that the forthcoming elections are of exceptional importance, arguing that their critical nature is not a political cliché but a direct response to the current realities facing Cyprus. He explained that this assessment played a decisive role in his decision to re-enter the political arena at a national level.

Papadakis said his decision to align himself with the ALMA Movement was “not difficult”, describing it as a new political force with clear priorities: fighting corruption and political entanglement, while modernising outdated state structures.

According to the former MEP, these objectives reflect the concerns of citizens who are increasingly frustrated with governance failures and the impact of entrenched practices on everyday life. He noted that his candidacy is aimed at offering voters a clear alternative grounded in transparency and accountability.

“Those who believe, let us walk together,” Papadakis stated, calling on like-minded citizens to unite against practices that, as he put it, “hurt us and make life harder”.
