Although the University of Cyprus is ready to proceed with a new architectural tender for the construction of its student residences, this time with 900 beds instead of 700 as stipulated by the original canceled tender, the project cannot move forward. The reason is that the Ministry of Finance, based on legislation, requires the academic institution to conduct a feasibility study for the project and select the method to be followed for its design and construction. This development is causing delays, with the University of Cyprus emphasizing that this is a project of utmost importance, which must be implemented immediately, providing relief to many students and their families, especially now that rents are very high and finding housing is a challenge.
