Marginal Rise in Cyprus Construction Materials Index for October 2024
Annual Decrease Trend Interrupted After Eight Months
The index of construction materials in Cyprus recorded a marginal increase in October 2024, interrupting an eight-month streak of annual reductions, according to data released by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CyStat).
The Price Index of Construction Materials, which tracks the cost evolution of construction materials for contractors, plays a critical role in influencing general prices and activity within the construction sector.
In October 2024, the index reached 117.18 units (base year 2021=100), showing a slight decrease of 0.08% compared to September 2024. On an annual basis, however, the index increased by 0.13% compared to October 2023.
Breaking down by main commodity categories:

Electromechanical products saw the largest increase at 3.63%.

Wood products, insulation materials, chemicals, and plastics increased by 1.17%.

Mineral products recorded a smaller increase of 0.45%.

Metallic products experienced a decline of 2.12%, and minerals decreased slightly by 0.02%.
For the period January to October 2024, the index recorded an overall decrease of 1.01% compared to the same period in 2023, CyStat noted.
