Data Breach at Oncology Centre Following Cyberattack

Centre confirms unauthorised access to patient and staff information.

The Bank of Cyprus Oncology Centre has filed a complaint with the Police regarding the malicious, unauthorised publication of certain data that were illegally removed from its systems. At the same time, it has informed the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection and the Digital Security Authority. The Centre is working closely with specialised teams of engineers and cybersecurity consultants on the matter.

According to an announcement by the Centre, “it has so far been confirmed that the malicious actors behind the cyberattack unfortunately gained access to personal data of patients, as well as data relating to employees, which they are threatening to further publish in the media and on social networking platforms.”

The handling of the incident is being carried out by the Centre’s Management in full coordination and in accordance with the instructions of the competent state authorities, while additional measures have been implemented to strengthen system security, it adds.

It is also stated that the Oncology Centre remains committed to managing the situation and safeguarding the personal data of its patients and employees, while its operations continue as normal.
