New Online Support for Domestic Violence Survivors
PHAROS: MIGS Launches Digital Platform for Women Victims of Gender Violence
Thursday marked the official launch of the digital platform PHAROS (www.pharos.cy). The site serves as a centralized, easily accessible hub for information on legal rights, support services, and available resources for women experiencing gender-based and domestic violence in the Republic of Cyprus.
According to an announcement by the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS), the platform was created to fill a critical gap and strengthen the right to information for survivors. This right is established under Laws 115(I)/2021, 117(I)/2016, and Article 13 of the Istanbul Convention. Access to information remains a challenge, particularly during times of crisis and increased vulnerability.
The PHAROS platform acts as an information tool covering:
- Legal Rights: Detailed guidance on rights and judicial system procedures.
- Support Services: Information on both governmental and non-governmental support structures.
- Referral Services: Direct contact info for competent authorities and referral agencies.
As part of the project, promotional material—including a 60-second awareness video—has been produced to boost public engagement and visibility.
Before the official launch, the platform underwent a pilot phase. It was evaluated by survivors of violence, their close networks, and frontline professionals. Feedback from these groups was integrated into the final design to ensure it meets the real-world needs of its users.
MIGS is calling on agencies, professionals, and the general public to familiarize themselves with and share the PHAROS platform to ensure it reaches every woman in need.
