Next-Gen Visionaries Shine at sCYence Fair 2026

70 Student Teams From Across Cyprus Showcase Groundbreaking Innovation and Creativity at the Cyprus Institute’s Premier Science Festival.

sCYence Fair 2026: New Generation of Scientists Impresses at The Cyprus Institute

Cyprus’s next generation of scientists once again stole the spotlight at sCYence Fair 2026. Held on April 30 at The Cyprus Institute, the event brought together 70 teams from elementary, middle, and high schools across the country for Cyprus's largest celebration of science.

The festival showcased science as a living, hands-on, and exciting experience through impressive experiments, interactive educational activities, inspiring presentations, and innovative student ideas that blended creativity with scientific thought. Participants competed for unique prizes, presenting projects that addressed modern challenges ranging from environment and energy to technology and health.

The Winners
  • Elementary Schools: 1st place went to Paphos Iordaneio Primary School for "The Smart Flowerpot," 2nd place to Kokkinotrimithia 2nd Primary School for "Sea Cleaner," and 3rd place to Dasoupoli Primary (K.B) for "Time2Fresh."
  • Middle Schools (Gymnasiums): The American International School of Cyprus (AISC) took top honors with the "Biomechanical Knee Energy Harvester," followed by Lighthouse Private School ("Tech for Nature: Smart Greenhouse") and Trinity Private School ("Dangerous Sand").
  • High Schools (Lyceums): Kykkos B' Lyceum secured 1st place with "Echokick," Foley’s School took 2nd with "Going Bananas for Bioplastic," and Ethnomartyr Kyprianou Lyceum placed 3rd with "IQ Garage."

In the Art Competition, notable winners included the GC School of Careers (elementary) for a painting made of used toys, the Pancyprian Gymnasium (middle school) for an "Ecological Dress," and Akropolis Lyceum (high school) for "Cursed Free Radicals."

Official Opening

The festival was officially opened by the Chief Scientist of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Demetris Skourides, in the presence of the President of The Cyprus Institute, Dr. Stavros Malas. Attendees included representatives from the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, EU ambassadors, and dozens of schools from across the island.

During the event, the public had the opportunity to visit the Interactive Science Exhibition and learn about the research conducted at The Cyprus Institute. Various embassies also participated with their own interactive booths, enhancing the festival’s international character. sCYence Fair 2026 reaffirmed its role as the leading institution for promoting science, innovation, and educational creativity in Cyprus.
