Three first-year students from the University of Limassol (UoL) BSc in Computing and Business Technologies and BSc in Economics programs, along with two external collaborators, have won the People’s Choice Award at the HACKTECH 2024 Hackathon.

According to a press release from UoL, the team conceptualized and developed an interactive map prototype designed to help users explore life in Limassol. Over an intense 36-hour hackathon, they delivered a fully functional prototype, which was then presented to a panel of judges.

“This accomplishment is a proud milestone for UoL, showcasing the talents of our undergraduate students who, at just 18 years old, have proven their ability to compete and excel at a national level,” the university stated. “Winning an award at a leading hackathon in Cyprus highlights their potential as future innovators in the tech and business domains.”

The University of Limassol also praised its students for their outstanding teamwork and dedication, celebrating the achievement as a reflection of the excellence and innovation fostered within its academic community.

The award-winning UoL students are Ivan Smirnov and Andrey Demiankov from the BSc in Computing and Business Technologies program, and Yakau Tsesler from the BSc in Economics program.
