RIF Launches New Funding Call to Boost National R&D Capacity
€7.5M for Open Access Research Infrastructure Programme
The Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) has announced the allocation of an additional €7.5 million in funding for a new programme titled “Open Access Research Infrastructures.” The initiative aims to strengthen Cyprus’s national research capabilities by supporting the acquisition of advanced, specialized equipment for experiments and testing—accessible to both the research and business communities.
The programme is open to Research Organisations and focuses on the procurement and installation of research infrastructure equipment, which will be made available to the wider Research and Innovation ecosystem through open access policies.
Key parameters of the call include:
-
Total call budget: €7,500,000
-
Maximum funding per project: €500,000
-
Proposal submission deadline: July 1, 2025
To be eligible, applicants must submit the following documentation: a clearly defined Open Access Policy, att least two Letters of Interest from stakeholders within the R&I ecosystem, and a cost estimate for the proposed equipment based on three comparable offers.
This funding call is part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan and will be implemented under a strict timeline, as the Plan concludes in June 2026.
The RIF noted that securing this additional funding reflects the Foundation’s reliability and effectiveness in delivering high-impact research and innovation investments in Cyprus.
