RIF Signs MoU with Tenstorrent

The agreement marks a major step in Cyprus’ strategy to become a regional hub for artificial intelligence and semiconductor development.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) and Tenstorrent, marking what the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) described as “a particularly important development for Cyprus’ technological ecosystem.”

The signing ceremony took place on Friday, October 17, at the Presidential Palace, with Jim Keller, CEO of Tenstorrent, and Dr. Dimitris Skourides, Chief Scientist and Chairman of RIF, signing the agreement. The event was attended by Deputy Minister to the President Irini Piki and Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nikodimos Damianou.

According to the announcement, the MoU represents another milestone in Cyprus’ ongoing efforts to establish itself as a regional hub for research, technology, and innovation.

Tenstorrent is a leading semiconductor company that develops high-performance processors for artificial intelligence applications. Its technologies combine innovative computing hardware and open-architecture software, enabling the creation and deployment of intelligent systems.

“This collaboration stems from the Cypriot President’s meetings with Silicon Valley companies last April,” the statement adds, “as well as the targeted exercise of scientific and technological diplomacy under the guidance of the Chief Scientist and Chairman of RIF.”

Dr. Michalis Sirivianos of CUT noted, “We have already initiated a meaningful collaboration with Tenstorrent, enhancing both our educational content and research infrastructure. We particularly thank the company for providing the TT Quiet Box, which allows us to experiment with and develop new computing architectures.”
