No Sensitive Personal Data Leaked in Cyprus Post Cyberattack, Deputy Minister Claims
Authorities assure public that only parcel tracking data was affected in the incident.
Deputy Minister of Digital Policy, Nikodimos Damianou, assured the public that no sensitive personal data were compromised following the recent cyberattack on Cyprus Post.
Speaking on the radio programme Proino Dromologio, Damianou explained that the affected system handles the sorting of incoming postal items and is not connected to the central server. As a result, only parcel tracking and movement information was exposed, not personal or financial data.
The Deputy Minister noted that access credentials were immediately changed once the incident was detected, and a full investigation is still ongoing.
He added that the government is making significant investments in cybersecurity infrastructure and equipment, aiming to improve national resilience against such attacks.
Damianou stressed that while enhancing cyber defence is a top priority for the Deputy Ministry, the human factor remains the weakest link in cybersecurity systems.
He concluded by acknowledging that, despite recent progress, much more work is needed to bring Cyprus’ cybersecurity standards to the desired level.
