Plug And Play Lands To Accelerate The Next Wave Of Startups

Cyprus is stepping deeper into the global innovation map, and this time, the signal is coming straight from Silicon Valley.

Plug and Play Tech Center, one of the world’s most active startup accelerators, has officially launched its Cyprus Innovation Centre, marking a pivotal moment for the island’s tech and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The announcement took place at the Presidential Palace, signaling strong institutional backing behind the initiative.

This is not just another program. It is a direct connection to a global network that spans more than 60 locations, linking startups with investors, corporates, and innovation partners across key markets.

A Structured Path To Scale

At the core of the Cyprus initiative is a hands-on accelerator program designed to help startups move faster, scale smarter, and think globally from day one.

The program focuses on early to growth-stage startups and offers:

  • Tailored mentorship from global experts
  • Direct access to investors and corporate partners
  • Market expansion support beyond Cyprus
  • Opportunities for pilot projects and partnerships

The first batch will kick off in June, selecting 10 startups based in Cyprus. Over time, the program aims to support around 60 startups through multiple acceleration rounds, building a pipeline of companies ready to compete internationally.

From Local Ecosystem To Global Network

The launch reflects a broader strategic push to reposition Cyprus as a regional hub for innovation, investment, and entrepreneurship.

Invest Cyprus welcomed the development as a milestone moment, emphasizing its role in strengthening international partnerships and attracting high-value investment to the island.

According to Marios Tannousis, CEO of Invest Cyprus, the arrival of Plug and Play is not just symbolic. It signals that Cyprus can attract globally recognized organizations with real impact, while creating new opportunities for startups, research institutions, and investors.

The move also builds on Cyprus’ growing international outreach, including recent efforts to strengthen ties with the US innovation ecosystem.

Closing The Gap

Beyond visibility, the real impact lies in infrastructure.

For years, Cyprus has had talent, ideas, and ambition. What it has lacked is consistent access to global capital, networks, and scaling expertise. This is exactly the gap Plug and Play is designed to fill.

By embedding Cyprus into its ecosystem, the accelerator creates a bridge between local founders and international markets, helping startups overcome one of their biggest barriers: scaling beyond a small domestic market.

A Vote Of Confidence

With a track record that includes early involvement in companies like Google, PayPal, and Dropbox, Plug and Play’s presence carries weight.

It is also a strong signal to the market. Not just that Cyprus is open for innovation, but that it is becoming a serious destination for it.

What Comes Next

The focus now shifts to founders.

Applications for the first cohort are open, with the program launching in June. For startups operating in Cyprus, this is an opportunity to plug directly into a global ecosystem that has helped shape some of the most successful tech companies of the past two decades.

For the broader market, it is something bigger. A step toward a more connected, outward-looking, and innovation-driven Cyprus.
