Thousands of SIM Card Holders Yet to Verify — Only 4 Days Left

Only 42% of users have verified their details as the legal deadline for prepaid SIM registration approaches.

Approximately 180,000 SIM card holders out of a total of 400,000—that is 42%—have completed the verification of their personal details so far. With just four days remaining before the deadline, authorities are warning that time is running out for users to comply.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Marinos Mousiouttas, has issued a final warning, urging users to verify their information immediately or risk losing their mobile number.

The verification rate has been rising in recent days, showing a late surge in public response. Previously, only 18% of SIM card holders had completed the process. Despite the improvement, officials remain concerned that less than half of users have verified their details.

“It seems we are a people who act at the last minute. The current rate of 42% does not satisfy us, as it doesn’t even cover half of all cardholders. However, we expect to receive updated figures from providers shortly,” said Marinos Mousiouttas, speaking to OffsiteNews.

He again urged users to proceed with verification immediately, warning that “the time frame is tightening.”

Mousiouttas also expressed concern for users who rely on prepaid SIM cards for security systems, alarms, and elevators, noting that failure to verify on time could pose serious risks, even endangering lives.

According to updated figures provided to OffsiteNews by Cyta’s Head of Public Relations, Ms. Yiallouridou, 52% of Cyta users have completed the verification process. “The rate has increased significantly, but it’s still not where we would like it to be. We hope more people will act now—time is running out,” she noted.

Under the law passed by Parliament in April 2024, all prepaid mobile phone users must verify their personal details by 10 November 2025. Failure to do so will result in deactivation and loss of their number.

The law granted mobile operators an 18-month period to inform customers and facilitate the verification process.

The Office of the Commissioner for Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation has repeatedly issued public notices reminding users of this mandatory requirement.
