Apple Introduces ChatGPT Integration with Siri

iOS 18.2 Brings AI Advancements with ChatGPT-Powered Siri and Enhanced Privacy Features

Apple released software updates for iPhone, iPad, and Mac on Wednesday, introducing the highly anticipated integration of ChatGPT with Siri, the company’s digital assistant.

The ChatGPT integration is activated when users ask Siri complex questions. According to Apple, privacy safeguards have been implemented, ensuring that OpenAI—the developer of ChatGPT—does not collect or store user data from Apple’s services. The integration utilizes OpenAI’s GPT-4o model.

Apple users do not need an OpenAI account to access ChatGPT via Siri. However, premium versions of ChatGPT are available for purchase through Apple. Users can also access ChatGPT functionality through specific text menus.

A Milestone with iOS 18.2

The release of iOS 18.2 marks a critical milestone for Apple, showcasing its advancements in artificial intelligence with the Apple Intelligence suite. This update is a key component of Apple’s marketing campaign for the iPhone 16 series. Apple first announced the ChatGPT integration in June.

The first phase of the Apple Intelligence suite launched in October, featuring:

  • Text editing tools for correcting or rewriting content.

  • A redesigned Siri interface that illuminates the entire phone screen.

  • Summaries for notifications, enhancing user experience.
