Celebrating Women in Business: 6th Mediterranean Symposium by BPW Cyprus
A Dynamic Convergence of Female Entrepreneurs and Leaders
In honor of World Women's Entrepreneurship Day, the Cyprus Federation of Business and Professional Women (BPW Cyprus) organized the 6th Mediterranean Symposium. Held on November 17 and 18 at the Filoxenia Conference Center, the event was themed "Women Protagonists in a Game-Changing Economy."
The elite panel of speakers from Cyprus and abroad captivated the audience, setting a high standard for the event.
The symposium was divided into two parts, beginning on Friday, November 17. Filippa Karsera Christodoulides, opened the event. This was followed by two inspirational speakers. American Larisa Miller, CEO of Phoenix Global LLC, a distinguished entrepreneur and activist on women's and refugee issues, spoke first. She was followed by Michalis Tyrimos, the young Cypriot entrepreneur and Founder & CEO of Capacitor Partners, who emphasized the crucial role of women in technology and the need for collective movement towards a common goal.
The evening concluded with the twinning of BPW Kyrenia and the Italian BPW club of Ravina Pugla.
On the second day, the President of BPW Cyprus, Tasia Yiannara Giallouridou, highlighted the pivotal role of women in the evolving economy, calling for their increased presence in decision-making centers. She stressed the importance of a balanced cooperation, especially during times of war and climate challenges, urging women to step out of supporting roles and take key positions in politics and economics. Achieving a balance between professional and family life, without sacrificing motherhood or femininity, was also deemed essential.
The symposium was graced by several dignitaries, including the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Anna Koukkidi-Prokopiou, the Minister of Transport and Works, Alexis Vafeiadis, the Deputy Minister to the President, Irene Piki, and the Commissioner for Gender Equality, Josie Christodoulou.
Women from the United States, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Lebanon, France, Israel, Greece, Moldova, Estonia, Malta, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Italy, and Cyprus exchanged views. The Symposium offered an exceptional opportunity for exchanging ideas among women with diverse experiences and professional backgrounds. It was also an excellent networking and collaboration platform, empowering young female entrepreneurs and informing them about strategies to successfully navigate the changing economic landscape.
