Fuel Demands Shrink: Cyprus Petroleum Sales Fall 5.1% in May
Total Sales of Petroleum Products Down 5.1% in May 2026, According to Cystat
CYSTAT data reveals a 5.1% annual drop in Cyprus' petroleum product sales for May 2026, driven by declines in aviation, marine, and station sales, despite a solid monthly rebound from April.
Annual Sales Drop Across Major Sectors
The total sales of petroleum products in May 2026 amounted to 127,538 tonnes, recording a decrease of 5.1% compared to May 2025, according to data published by the Statistical Service.
A drop was observed in the provisions of marine gasoil (-13.3%) and aviation kerosene (-7.5%), as well as in the sales of kerosene (-23.6%), asphalt (-20.8%), heavy fuel oil (-18.2%), heating gasoil (-11.5%), road diesel (-4.1%) and motor gasoline (-0.3%). On the contrary, a rise was observed in the sales of light fuel oil (19%).
As far as the sales from filling stations are specifically concerned, these have registered a drop of 2.6% to 56,867 tonnes.
Month-on-Month Rebound and Stock Surges
The total sales of petroleum products in May 2026, compared to April 2026, recorded an increase of 7.7%.
Indicatively, a rise was recorded in the provisions of aviation kerosene (13.2%), as well as in the sales of road diesel (8.8%) and motor gasoline (8.3%) whereas, the provisions of marine gasoil decreased by 8.9%.
According to CYSTAT, the total stocks of petroleum products at the end of May 2026 increased by 7.1% compared to the end of the previous month.
Solid Five-Month Outlook
Despite the dip in May, the broader yearly trajectory remains positive. During the period January – May 2026, the total sales of petroleum products increased by 3.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
