Cyprus Identifies Saudi Arabia as Key Tourism Market
Cyprus Deputy Minister of Tourism, Kostas Koumis, has identified Saudi Arabia as a potentially significant tourist market for Cyprus. Koumis recently visited Saudi Arabia to explore opportunities in the tourism sector, coinciding with the resumption of air travel between the two countries after several years. This development has opened up new possibilities for tourism flows, as Saudi Arabia is also making strides in the tourism industry.
During his visit, Koumis toured the three cities from which flights operate to Cyprus: Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam. He held productive meetings with over 70 tourism professionals, aiming to raise awareness of Cyprus as a tourist destination in this expansive market.
In addition to industry professionals, Koumis also engaged with senior executives from leading airlines. In Dammam, near the Bahrain border, he met with the President and officials of the Asharqia commercial chamber. Furthermore, Koumis conducted an interview with Arab News and has scheduled interviews with other prominent media outlets in Saudi Arabia.
Expressing his views on Saudi Arabia's significance as a tourism market, Koumis stated, "Saudi Arabia is a vast market that consistently prioritizes tourism. It holds immense potential for our country." Recognizing the importance of monitoring market developments, Koumis emphasized the proactive approach taken by Saudi Arabia's Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed Bin Salman, in promoting the tourism sector.
Koumis highlighted the establishment of Riyadh Air, a new ambitious airline, as a significant development. He emphasized that Cyprus is a mere three-hour flight away from major cities in this thriving market. Leveraging this advantage, Koumis stressed the need to capitalize on the growing tourism potential.
Moreover, Koumis underscored the importance of fostering closer ties between the tourism communities of both countries. He expressed his hope that the memorandum of cooperation, approved by the Council of Ministers earlier this year, would facilitate this collaboration.
The Cyprus Ministry of Tourism remains vigilant in monitoring the evolving Saudi Arabian market. With the newfound air connectivity and shared commitment to tourism development, Cyprus aims to strengthen its position as an attractive destination for Saudi Arabian tourists. Through collaborative efforts and mutually beneficial partnerships, both countries can unlock the full potential of their tourism sectors.
