Expanding Tourism Potential: Introducing Limassol's 'Gyrisma' Nature Trail

In order to promote and develop specialized forms of tourism, the Limassol Tourism Development and Promotion Company (ETAL) has created the "Gyrisma" nature trail. This picturesque trail begins in the Manoulades area of the Parekklisia community.

The trail spans a distance of 7.8 kilometers and offers both linear and circular routes. It follows a lush green path that was historically used by locals for their travel between Parekklisia and Kellaki Prison, often relying on donkeys for transportation.

Recently, a group of journalists had the opportunity to experience a portion of the trail, covering 2.5 kilometers. Their journey started at Kellaki Prison's northern section and they were accompanied by members of the Forestry Department and representatives from both communities.

Throughout the trail, walkers will encounter rocky formations and abundant vegetation. The route cuts through the mesmerizing Limassol Forest, providing stunning views of the sea and Limassol Bay, all while following the community's traditional "arkatzi" irrigation channel.

The trail has been meticulously mapped out and signposted, ensuring ease of navigation. Additionally, amenities such as benches, trash bins, and a map have been strategically placed along the route for convenience.

More tourism-related projects to follow

ETAL's President, Tony Antoniou, expressed pride in the development of yet another nature trail that meets the needs of tourists, particularly those from northern countries who often seek out opportunities for nature walks during their visits.

He further emphasized the promotion of Cyprus' unique fauna and the opportunity for visitors to enjoy nature while engaging in physical activity. Mr. Antoniou extended his gratitude to the Forestry Department for their invaluable support, as well as to the community councils of Parekklisia and Kellaki Prison.

Looking ahead, ETAL is actively planning various tourism-related projects in eastern Limassol, an area in close proximity to the tourism industry. These endeavors aim to improve accessibility for cyclists and hikers, ultimately creating memorable experiences for all visitors.

ETAL's Director, Maria Stylianou, also highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the establishment of two cycling routes within the Parekklisia community. These routes, spanning distances of 19 and 13 kilometers, cater to different skill levels and incorporate both off-road and paved sections. Purpose-built facilities such as bike stands and a dedicated rest and repair point have been thoughtfully implemented to enhance the overall cycling experience.

Looking forward, ETAL intends to develop ten additional routes in the mandarin villages of eastern Limassol. These routes will be extensively promoted on major international platforms, ensuring that interested individuals are well-informed and inspired to explore the natural wonders that Cyprus has to offer.
