September Sees Mixed Results in Fuel Sales and Supply

Petroleum Sales Fluctuate Amidst Market Changes

In September, there was a slight annual increase in overall petroleum product sales, despite a decrease in service station sales amidst rising fuel prices. According to data released on Friday by the Statistical Service, total petroleum product sales reached 130,673 tons in September, marking a minor rise of 1.8% compared to September 2022. From January to September 2023, there was a marginal increase of 0.1% compared to the same period last year.

Significant growth was recorded in September's airline fuel supplies by 6.7%, along with sales of heavy fuel oil (up by 219.9%), kerosene (33.2%), and light fuel oil (11.7%). In contrast, there was a decrease in maritime fuel supplies by 0.9%, as well as in sales of asphalt (down 9.4%), heating oil (3.4%), gasoline (2.2%), diesel fuel (2.1%), and liquefied petroleum gas (1.9%).

Specifically, sales from petroleum stations slightly decreased by 1.6% to 56,289 tons. Unleaded gasoline sales fell by 1.6%, and diesel fuel sales also declined by 1.6% on an annual basis.

Compared to August 2023, total petroleum product sales in September 2023 saw an increase of 4.7%. Notably, there was a significant rise in maritime fuel supplies (39.0%) and diesel fuel sales (8.3%), while airline fuel supplies dropped by 6.6%, and gasoline sales decreased by 1.1%.
