On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, the Strovolos Municipality will host its first workshop focusing on developing green skills for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). The theme of the workshop is "How to Set Up My Business Based on Circular Economy Principles: Planning and Implementation."
According to a press release by the Press and Information Office, this workshop is the first in a series of five educational workshops jointly organized by the Commissioner's Office for the Environment and CSR Cyprus (Cyprus Network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility).
The subsequent workshop is slated for Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at the Blue Economy Center of Limassol Municipality, titled "SMEs and Corporate Social Responsibility. How to Avoid Greenwashing."
The upcoming workshop at Strovolos Cultural Center will take place from 9:45 AM to 1:00 PM, aiming to equip participants with necessary information from industry experts. Notably, two academics specialized in circular economy topics, Associate Professor Antonis Zorpas of the Open University and Professor Giorgos Dimitriou of the Circular Economy Research Center at École des Ponts Business School, will elucidate the tools essential for the successful implementation of circular economy principles in Cypriot SMEs. They will also highlight the medium and long-term benefits for businesses adopting these principles, along with opportunities for European funding.
Furthermore, directors from two Cypriot SMEs already practicing circular economy principles will share their hands-on experiences. Specifically, Loizos Tofas, Director of "Planty, The Hydroponic Way", and Eftyhios Vasileiadis, Director of "Dinos Poupas Plastics", will discuss challenges they faced, how they overcame them, and the advantages they've recognized through the application of circular economy principles in their businesses.
Finally, Christos Fotiadis, the Director of Industry and Technology from the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry, will present the existing funding plans for the implementation of circular economy principles by the respective ministry.
