Cyprus Among Safest in EU for Household Poverty Risk
Eurostat: Cyprus Homes with Children Boast Some of EU’s Lowest Poverty Rates
Cyprus ranks among the EU countries with the lowest levels of risk of poverty or social exclusion for households with dependent children, according to data published by Eurostat on Wednesday.
Specifically, in 2025, the share of people living in households with dependent children in the European Union who were at risk of poverty or social exclusion (AROPE) stood at 22.1%, compared to 19.8% for those living in households without dependent children.
In Cyprus, the corresponding rate for households with dependent children was 12.2%, placing the country among those with the lowest levels in the EU. For households without dependent children, the rate stood at 22.1%.
At member state level, the highest rates for people living in households with dependent children were recorded in Spain (29.9%), Romania (29.4%) and Bulgaria (29.1%). By contrast, aside from Cyprus, low levels were also observed in Slovenia (10.4%) and the Netherlands (11.7%).
