Dora Bakoyannis on the GSI: “Huge Interests Are Pressuring Christodoulides”
She added that despite the pressures, she believes the project will ultimately be completed.
Former Greek Foreign Minister and current New Democracy MP Dora Bakoyannis has weighed in on the escalating debate surrounding the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI).
Speaking to Greek media on Tuesday, Bakoyannis said that “there are huge economic interests in Cyprus pressuring President Christodoulides,” adding, however, that “the Cypriot president is determined to move forward with the cable. I believe the project will be completed.”

Her remarks come amid ongoing efforts by both governments to calm tensions following days of conflicting statements over the project’s future. President Nikos Christodoulides recently denied that a “crisis” exists between Nicosia and Athens, saying that while “some technocratic differences” remain, relations with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis are “the strongest they have ever been.”
