Frozen Accounts Cause Turmoil at RIK

The Appeal, Aiming to Lift the Freeze Order, Will Be Examined on April 3rd

There has been considerable unrest among the management and employees of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (RIK) due to a court order freezing the organization's accounts. As RIK's General Director, Thanasis Tsokos, explained to Brief, the institution is currently unable to make any payments, including employee salaries, following the court's decision. An appeal against this ruling has been filed by RIK.

Tsokos stated that the appeal, aiming to lift the freeze order, will be examined on April 3rd. Until then, the use of the frozen accounts for any payments, including salaries, is impossible. The management is actively seeking a solution to ensure that salaries are paid by the end of the week, hoping these efforts will be successful.

Tsokos emphasized that it's unfair for the employees to suffer due to a court decision, which was made following a request by the lawyers of Eudokia Loizou. He stressed that the order should not have been issued, hence the appeal, to be reviewed on April 3rd.

The unions at RIK, as broadcasted by RIK Radio, have announced one-hour work stoppages twice a day starting this Friday, March 29th, if the salary issue is not resolved. These strikes are planned to take place daily from 1:30 - 2:30 pm and 8:00 - 9:00 pm.

The unions have informed RIK's management of their decision, triggered by a letter from the Director of Personnel and Administration indicating that the account freezing issue remains unresolved and could potentially affect the staff's salary payments.
