Visiting Lania for the "Lanes and Courtyards" Event

A Two-Day Event Featuring the Village’s Architecture, as Well as the Warm Hospitality of Its Residents

The small traditional village of Lania is located in the Limassol District at an altitude of 570 meters in the Troodos mountains, just 25 kilometers from the city of Limassol. Lania is one of the island’s villages where grapes are cultivated. While in earlier times the inhabitants were primarily engaged in the cultivation of vineyards - and the production of wines, zivania, and soutzoukos (grape sweet), due to urbanisation, unfortunately, only a few grape cultivators remain in the village today.

According to tradition, the village took its name from Lana, daughter of Dionysus, the god of wine, or it may derive from the word "valania" (acorn), because of the acorns from oak trees that grow abundantly in the area.

Interesting sights include the old wine press, the Commandaria Storage Museum, and an old olive mill. The church of Panagia Valana is located in the center of the village, while the chapel of Panagia Valana is situated just outside the village, near a small excursion area and a park.

Every May, the women of the village open their courtyards to welcome visitors to their homes during the event "Alleys and Courtyards of Lania."

The "Alleys and Courtyards of Lania" is a simple, non-commercial event aimed at giving visitors a joyful day with the opportunity to be welcomed into the courtyards of Lania village. The purpose is to promote and rejuvenate the village.

Lania is not just a destination, it is an experience where tradition meets modern charm. The vibrant community is waiting to welcome us with open arms.

Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the open courtyards of the beautiful village and participate in handicraft workshops.

In the village, there will be stalls offering delicious traditional Cypriot food and handicrafts, while traditional dances and music will add to the festive atmosphere of the event.

The event is organized with the support of the Community Council of Lania.
