Temporary Transition to the i-Justice System Effective From Today
Full Restoration of e-Justice Remains the Ultimate Goal
The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy has announced the temporary transition to the i-Justice system starting Monday, January 29, 2024.
In its statement, the Deputy Ministry noted that various processes and technical preparations are currently underway to ensure as smooth a transition as possible. Additionally, an announcement from the Supreme Court regarding the operation of the Courts and the use of the system is expected within the day.
Meanwhile, the immediate focus will be on thoroughly examining and detailing the corrective actions of the contracting company of the e-Justice system and evaluating its overall operation, as the goal remains the full restoration of the system, the Deputy Ministry concluded.
Regarding the matter, Mr. Damianou emphasized that the objective is for the e-Justice project to continue and to assess whether the problems have been resolved. "This time, we want to ensure that the changes claimed to have been made by the company have been correctly checked and that the system is indeed ready to re-enter operational production," he said, noting that the deadline given to the contracting company expires tomorrow.
The effort, according to the Deputy Minister of Research, is "to exhaust all margins to make the system work and work correctly."
i-Justice, essentially a document management system, deals only with document registration, unlike e-Justice, which is a comprehensive electronic justice system, he explained.
Meanwhile, the Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) issued a related announcement, highlighting the critical importance of information systems in the public sector. This comes in light of the collapse of the e-justice system, stressing the necessity for staffing competent state departments with qualified engineers and scientists for IT-related issues.
In its latest announcement, the Chamber expresses its commitment to contribute with the expertise of its members to assist in resolving the issues that have arisen.
As stated, information systems are key to optimizing the functionality of public services, enabling effective management of information and continuous provision of high-quality services to citizens. The contribution of information systems is the primary tool for the digitization of the public sector, its evolution, and adaptation to the modern needs of society.
