Parliament Passes Law to Regulate Overdue Tax Debts
New Law Extends Authority to Tax Commissioner Until 2027
The plenary session of Parliament unanimously passed a law regulating overdue tax debts.
The law grants the Tax Commissioner the authority to review applications for the regulation of overdue tax debts until December 31, 2027. A prerequisite for applicants is that they must have submitted all required tax returns they had failed to file by the application submission date.
The legislative proposal was submitted by DIKO-Cooperation MP Alekos Tryfonides. He stated that the purpose of the proposal is to assist citizens with benefits and reliefs similar to those provided by the 2015 and subsequently the 2019 laws. He noted that this measure addresses isolated cases, allowing citizens to take advantage of this opportunity as long as they comply with their tax return obligations.
