Nicosia Adopts Novoville: A Smart City Platform

Streamlining Communication And Issue Resolution Through Real-Time Resident Requests

The Municipality of Nicosia is introducing an electronic platform for communication, request recording, and management called "Novoville," as part of its digital transformation aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.

According to a statement from the Municipality, this initiative is part of the EU co-funded project "Smart City."

“The immediate resolution of everyday problems, as well as the simplification of communication with residents, is at the core of the Municipality’s efforts,” the statement notes. The vision and goal are to “listen, resolve, and inform immediately about the resolution of problems encountered daily by residents and visitors to our city, in a transparent and measurable way.”

The Novoville platform allows residents to submit requests via a mobile app to address issues related to the city's operations. Residents or visitors can report issues in real-time, such as cleanliness, abandoned cars, street lighting, etc., including emergencies requiring immediate municipal action. Every citizen can submit requests without cost, calls, or visits, saving time and avoiding inconvenience.

Requests can be submitted through the free Novoville app for iOS and Android smart devices or the Novoville web app on the Municipality’s website. The process involves four simple steps: selecting a location, choosing a request category, adding a photo, and sending the request to the Municipality.

Once the request is submitted, the relevant municipal service receives it, and the resident gets live updates on their phone about its resolution progress until completion. Meanwhile, the Municipality’s services have a real-time overview of city issues, enabling them to plan their work better and maintain direct communication with residents.

Furthermore, the Municipality can communicate with residents and visitors about upcoming events via news and announcements and collect their opinions on various topics through short consultations.

At the platform’s launch press conference, Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, stated that "our goal is to leverage innovative digital solutions to improve citizen service and facilitate seamless interaction between the Municipality and its residents." He emphasized that Novoville is a modern tool with many capabilities, fostering participatory management of public spaces and daily communication with the Municipality at all levels.

"I am confident that with the support of municipal services, and especially the residents, we will resolve every issue affecting daily life in our Municipality, taking another important step toward a smarter and more sustainable way of living," he said.

The project is part of the Cohesion Policy Program "THALIA 2021-2027," co-financed by the EU.
